Dr. Matei obtained her Doctorate from the University of Toronto, Canada and went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. David Lyden at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, She then joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 2018, where she studies cancer metastasis, autoimmunity and intercellular communication between systems and organs at homeostasis and during disease progression, with a particular focus on the adaptive immune system and neuroinflammation. She is a member of the Cancer Biology Program of the Meyer Cancer Center and actively involved in community engagement efforts at the MCC. She is an active member of the International Society of Extracellular Vesicles, contributing to editorial and mentorship programs.
